Spanning three decades, 29 Serbian sportsmen and coaches won a total of 186 trophies and titles. This alone was reason enough for the event \u201cSerbs in Greek sport\u201d to be held, under patronage of the Greek president Karolos Papoulias. The event was organized by the Serbian Embassy and the Greek-Serbian Business Counsel with aim of honoring those who have significantly contributed to Greek sports. Coaches, players and all those who have advanced the athletic spirit in Greece were acknowledged during the ceremony with awards and plaques, respectively. Legendary Serbian basketball coaches \u017deljko Obradovi\u0107 and Du\u0161an Ivkovi\u0107 became the honorary citizens of Athens and Piraeus and were awarded by the mayors Giorgos Kaminis and Vasilis Michaloliakos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many Serbian sport players and officials, considered heroes in Greece, were present: Predrag Stojakovi\u0107, \u017darko Paspalj, Dejan Toma\u0161evi\u0107, Ivan Miljkovi\u0107, Darko Kova\u010devi\u0107, Predrag \u00d0or\u0111evi\u0107, Ilija Ivi\u0107, Marko Panteli\u0107, Dejana Br\u0111ovi\u0107, Branislav Prelevi\u0107, coaches Bo\u017eidar Maljkovi\u0107, Vlada \u00d0urovi\u0107, Du\u0161an \u0160akota, Zoran Gaji\u0107a, Nikola Stameni\u0107 and Du\u0161an Bajevi\u0107.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apart from the exhibition of photographs, collected especially for this event, a thematic film was screened that thrilled a full hall of guests. In tact with the tradition and friendship of the two nations, Dejan Petrovi\u0107 (officially the world\u2019s best trumpet player) and his Big Band, entertained the guests as a grand finale to the ceremony.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
